Abigail Blanchard is nearing completion of her Human Kinetics Bachelor’s degree from StFX; however, having all her kinesiology courses complete she began her career with Lifemark in Halifax, Nova Scotia in April 2021. Longing for home during the long closures of the Atlantic Bubble, she returned to Newfoundland to begin working with FIT For Work in Corner Brook in September 2021.
While in Halifax, Abigail worked from two clinics; Russell Lake Physiotherapy as well as ptHealth Gladstone where she treated a wide variety of injuries with a focus in lower back pain and workplace injuries. She used various treatment techniques to treat these injuries such as exercise rehabilitation, education on injuries, as well as using modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound, electrical agents, superficial heat and cryotherapy; therapies that she now offers at FFW in Corner Brook. Given the pandemic restrictions, Abigail has been able to provide virtual care to her patients which provides flexibility to the patient and keeps safety in mind. Abigail is also a DOT certified D&A Technician and offers pre-employment testing as well.
Abigail has a special interest in sports therapy having worked as the trainer with the Strait Area Pirates; a Junior B division ice hockey team. She also participated in the 2018 Special Olympics as a Medical Volunteer and is currently volunteering in her hometown as a firefighter.
Abigail looks forward to growing her career further upon completion of her degree in a couple of months and is always looking for ways to grow and improve service to her patients.
