Karen graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1979. She joined the Pan Am Clinic in 1989 after working at St. Boniface Hospital and Pembina Physiotherapy. She has been part of the Lifemark team for two years. Karen achieved her Certified Hand Therapist designation in 1991. Hand therapy is focused rehabilitation of the upper limb, which includes the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder girdle. A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is a physiotherapist who has a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. Karen also has training in manual therapy for orthopedic conditions, treatment of musician injuries and rehabilitation for cancer patients. Karen is involved in a clinical research program for Breast Cancer patients. She also sees cancer patients in the clinic for active rehabilitation after surgery and/or chemotherapy. This cancer rehabilitation is strongly supported in the literature and has been proven to assist in returning people to a normal, productive life and improving general quality of life. She is the past treasurer of Sport Physiotherapy Canada’s Manitoba section and also served as chair of the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba.
