Katherine’s counselling practice encompasses a whole person approach to mental health and well-being. She understands and works with the personal and environmental issues that impact a person’s ability to recover from life’s challenging events whether they be personal issues, relationships, work-related issues, or problems related to disability and health. Her goal is to help people function better.
She brings to her practice many years of experience. Katherine’s professional focus is on issues of identity, personal meaning, adaptive behaviours, and the environments in which stressful events unfold. Katherine works with adults – young and older, couples and groups. She also consults with workplaces.
She is known for her sensitivity, her engaging and direct style, her compassion and her genuine interest in working with people toward a shared understanding of their difficulties and their preferred future.
Katherine McInnis has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Windsor. She is a graduate of Trent University (Hons Psych) and the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine. She has specific skill in brief therapies, trauma, cognitive behavioural therapies, biofeedback and neurofeedback. She works with treatment programs such as the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). She is certified in Solution-Focused Counselling. Katherine has studied many spiritual and healing traditions over the past decades.
In her spare time Katherine practices art. She is an avid film lover – some of her favourites include Apocalypse Now, Wings of Desire, Muppet Treasure Island and The Emperor’s New Groove.
