Melina is a registered physiotherapist and clinic director at the Lifemark Sports Medicine Center at the Richmond Oval. She is also the director of quality and performance improvement for Lifemark Health Group in BC.
Melina received her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of British Columbia, following the completion of a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in Exercise Science. She is certified in acupuncture by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and is certified to practice intramuscular stimulation (dry needling).
Melina has been practicing in sports medicine since 2008 and has since pursued numerous post-graduate courses studying the science of movement. She has completed training and mentorship programs specifically related to the selective functional movement assessment and functional movement screening. Her focus when treating patients is to discover the root cause contributing to injury, rather than just treating the symptoms. Melina has experience treating a wide variety of patients ranging from recreational and professional athletes to clinical populations. Melina combines her clinical skills with education by lecturing to community groups, other health care professionals and sports organizations about injury prevention.
Melina has been involved with the UBC Masters in Physical Therapy as a lab instructor for the neuroanatomy program, as an examiner for the Internationally Educated Physiotherapist Exam Preparation program as well as the National Physiotherapy Licensing exam.
In her spare time she enjoys cycling, running, skiing and traveling.
