She graduated from the Queens College in Glasgow, Scotland. She is registered with the College of Physiotehrapy Ontario. She has passed the Michigan Board Exams for Physiotherapy.

Neuro-rehabilitation in both adults and children has been the main love of her career. She loves to work both with clients and families as is so often the case in a neurological injury. She has been significantly involved in planning, developing and implementing physiotherapy services and programs into retirement and long-term care facilities. Merle presently has 15 years of managerial experience as both a regional manager managing a complement of 53 staff and co-ordinating services with 48 eldercare facilities and Clinic Director to our busy multidisciplinary clinic.

Merle’s physiotherapy practice utilizes integrated manual therapy techniques, individualized exercise prescription to correct indicators that lead to musculoskeletal injuries. She is also well versed in cranial sacral therapy, myofascial release, vestibular rehabilitation, concussion rehabilitation, dry needling, and acupuncture. Merle’s goal with each patient is to establish trust and a rapport to educate them on their condition allowing the client to participate fully in their rehabilitation. She is adamant that knowledge and an active treatment plan leads to a successful recovery.

Merle continues to encourage and involve the clinic and staff in community events such as Relay for Life. This helps build a team rapport and community spirit. Every year, the clinical staff sponsors needy families with support at Christmas. Merle continues to pursue a wide range of post-graduate education courses to continuously further her knowledge and clinical skills. She is a firm believer that learning should never stop.

Merle enjoys keeping active and participates in gym workouts, bicycling and ice skating. Merle loves to read, garden, travel and enjoy her four children and three grandchildren. She has been actively involved with the Rotary International Youth Exchange Programme providing a home to students from Brasil, Finland and Germany.
