Steven began working in his field in 2001, when he started work as a technician in prosthetics and orthotics. After completing an undergraduate science degree at the University of Victoria, he went on to complete his clinical training in prosthetics and orthotics at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2004. Steven laid down a foundation working in a sports therapy role, but went on to round out his clinical skills. He spent several years working closely with the spine team in Calgary, treating spinal fractures and applying Halo orthoses. He moved on to do very rewarding pediatrics work for several years and ended up working at the Bloorview Children's Rehab Hospital in Toronto, the only facility of its kind in Canada.
In 2012, he returned to Calgary for his current job and a primarily sports medicine role, but retained the varied experience of working with multidisciplinary teams focused on patient care. As a Certified Orthotist, Steven is a member of the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists, as well as a member of the Canadian Association for Prosthetics and Orthotics. He has written for Alignment, the journal of the CAPO, and he has also served as an editor. He believes in sharing his knowledge with patients so that they understand the goals and take ownership of their treatment.
