Your customized treatment plan
Lifemark kinesiologists have expert knowledge of the role your body mechanics play in managing injuries. A kinesiologist will create a customized plan that considers your current abilities and limitations, and will work with you to achieve your goals of returning to your daily life.
At your initial appointment, the kinesiologist will discuss any medical history that relates to your condition, so please bring details of your injury and past treatments. The kinesiologist will discuss the findings of your initial assessment with you, and will review your treatment plan illustrating the path to recovery.

Active treatments
An active treatment model will be used during your treatments, and the kinesiologist will collaborate with other clinicians, including physiotherapists, massage therapists and/or occupational therapists.
This may include:
- Application of low-tempo exercises, gentle range of motion techniques, as well as light activation movements, manual soft tissue release, and the use of modalities, balance, and posture
- Gradual progression of your program once you are able to tolerate more activity
- A focus on decreasing your fears about pain, along with education on pain management
- Hydrotherapy (pool therapy) sessions, as required and if desired, to reduce joint loading and increase mobility.
What is active rehabilitation?
Active rehabilitation is an evidence-based treatment model used by a Lifemark kinesiologist to correct body mechanics and restore mobility to injured areas. Active rehabilitation helps with injuries to joints, soft tissue sprains and strains, post-operative rehabilitation, and post-concussion management. This includes back and neck pain, knee and ankle pain, shoulder dysfunction, concussion and balance issues, and more.
How can active rehabilitation help me?
Active rehabilitation uses progressive exercise and range of motion techniques to help you overcome injuries. It is a safe and effective treatment for both acute and chronic conditions, whether you recently had a car accident or you are on long term disability (LTD) and are looking for assistance getting back to work. Once the treating physician has cleared you for kinesiology, you can begin active therapy. As treatments are tailored to meet your current condition you do not have to wait until you have completed months of physiotherapy and massage therapy before starting.
