What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy involves hands-on manipulation of the body’s tissues including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints, to help decrease pain and improve mobility. By increasing circulation and the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the body, massage is able to promote the body’s natural healing process.
How will massage therapy help me?
Massage therapy can treat acute and chronic conditions including stress and anxiety, headaches, neck and back pain, sport injuries, arthritis and more.
Massage is not only great on its own as a wellness strategy — we also recommend it as complementary therapy to physio, acupuncture and chiropractic therapies.
How does it work?
Massage therapy has a therapeutic effect on the body by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems to maintain and improve physical function. Massaging the soft tissue helps improve circulation and lymphatic flow, decrease heart rate, promote relaxation and stress relief, and relieve pain.
When can I expect to see results?
Results vary depending on the type and degree of your condition. Massage is very effective and many clients notice a difference immediately, but it can take several, on-going treatments for a full recovery.
Our registered massage therapist (RMT) will discuss your individualized treatment plan with you and explain when you can expect to see results.
What do I need to bring to my initial appointment?
At your initial appointment, our registered massage therapist will discuss any medical history that relates to your condition. Please come prepared to discuss details of health problems or treatments you’ve had in the past.
