Carmen Saporito

Physiotherapist

About

Carmen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 1989. She began her career gaining experience in several areas of care, including inpatient and outpatient orthopaedics, spinal cord injuries, chest physiotherapy, burns and plastics, intensive care, and post-operative heart surgery care at the Misericordia and University of Alberta Hospitals in Edmonton.

She later joined Lake Beaumaris Physiotherapy, where she continued to develop her interest in musculoskeletal care. During this time, Carmen completed the first three levels of orthopaedic courses to further specialize in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

Committed to helping her patients achieve the best possible results, Carmen completed medical acupuncture training at the University of Alberta in 1995, taught by Dr. Steven Aung. She has also completed her Gunn IMS certification. She has developed an interest in women’s pelvic floor physiotherapy and has received training to treat female incontinence.

With over 30 years of experience, Carmen treats a wide range of muscle and joint injuries and conditions, including injuries that occur at home, work, or during sports. She is constantly learning, reviewing research, and exploring new ways to make treatment more effective. She also believes in teaching patients strategies they can use at home to continue managing their condition.

Outside of work, she has three children who keep her busy. She still makes time for exercise, including weights, running, sports, and other physical activities with her family. Exercise has always been an important part of her life, and she believes an active lifestyle plays an important role in overall health.

For Carmen, the best part of her work is hearing patients say they are feeling better and able to return to their pre-injury activities.
