Joan earned her Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy in the Philippines in 2001. Before coming to Canada, she worked in a hospital in the Philippines as a Physiotherapist for 12 years. She earned her Bridging to Canadian Physical Therapy practice certificate in 2022 at the University of Alberta.

She has worked previously in a private clinical setting in Edmonton, treating various musculoskeletal injuries, motor vehicle injuries and post-surgical rehabilitation cases.

In her free time, she likes to swim, go for a leisurely walks, and watch movies.
