About
Luanne graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in 1983 and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 1986. In 1990, Luanne and Susan Kennedy started Avalon Physiotherapy.
Luanne has continued her education over the years, participating in ongoing education with courses focusing on MSK injury management. She has completed the manual therapy courses of the CPA Orthapaedic division and Mackenzie Parts A to D.
Most recent courses have included Craniocervical & Craniomandibular Pathology Approach & Treatment, The Temporomandibular Joints (Mariano Rocobada), R2P Management of Acute Concussion Syndrome, Advanced Management of Post Concussion Syndrome (Jacquie van Iersssel), Osteoporosis Prevention Treatment and Management (Margaret Martin), Advanced Clinical Rehabiliation for Strength (Dr. Scotty Butcher) and GLA:D Cerfitication.
Luanne has been a member of the Private Practice Liason Committee with Workplace NL for 12 years, the last 5 as Chairperson. She is a past president of the NL Sports Physiotherapy Division. In the past, she has provided coverage for the MUN varsity teams, for provincial and national sporting events, Canada Winter Games, and the NL and Labrador Summer/Winter games.
She has two sons in their twenties who have played hockey for many years, and Luanne was often the team therapist. She enjoys many activities with her husband including biking and cross country skiing. She also enjoys reading, walking, and attending the gym.
