About

Dr Rideout is a family physician with twenty-two years of experience in occupational medicine and management of disability. She is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) having completed many of their programs including courses in Disability Management. She also successfully completed the Board written examination and qualified as an Associate of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine (ACBOM). For the past five years, she has been a tutor for the University of Alberta Foundations program in Occupational Medicine. She has been a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME) since 2000.

She has worked as a Medical Director with a large occupational medicine firm and now works as a medical consultant with multiple affiliations including FIT For Work since 2017.

Her past associations also include eleven years’ experience as Medical Consultant with Workplace NL (WPNL). She continues to complete Permanent Functional Impairment assessments for WPNL which detail specifically the level of impairment and corresponding disability. 

At present she regularly completes independent medical examinations, fitness to work evaluations, provides advisory services to small, medium and larger organizations and insurers. She also serves as Final Appeals Physician for a major national corporation.

She has experience in:

  • Policy and Procedure Development
  • Disability Management
  • Fitness to Work Evaluations
  • Independent Medical Examinations (insurance, unions, legal)
  • Permanent Functional Impairment Ratings and subsequent disability
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing and acts a Medical Review Officer for several agencies.
  • Arbitration hearings

Dr Rideout also has extensive occupational medicine experience in the offshore oil industry, seafarers, aviation, Coast Guard, mining, energy, construction projects, review of non negative drug and alcohol testing, and workers’ compensation. She has significant experience reviewing workers’/claimants’ abilities to perform duties in their particular occupations as part of disability management and fitness to work programs. Over the years, she has done numerous fitness-to-work evaluations and independent medical examinations for private industry, legal, government, and insurance.

She is the past Secretary of the Occupational and Environmental Medical Association of Canada (OEMAC).
